Letโ€™s practice spelling! โœ๏ธ

A daily type-the-word practice. The app says a word, uses it in a sentence, and your child types how to spell it from memory โ€” the way spelling really works. It starts easy and grows with them. Offline & private โ€” nothing leaves this device.

Overall mastery

Spelling is scored by typing the word from memory (not multiple choice), which builds real spelling skill. Words you nail move up through 5 review boxes and โ€œgraduateโ€; missed words come back sooner. Progress is saved on this device only.

Accuracy per run

Each bar is one practice run: the % of words spelled right on the first try. Multiple runs the same day show as (1), (2)โ€ฆ

Updated automatically from every session โ€” whatโ€™s solid, and exactly what to work on next with your child.

Recent runs

Each practice session is its own row โ€” 2026-09-06 (1), (2), โ€ฆ for multiple runs the same day. Click a run to see which words were right or wrong.

      ๐Ÿ’พ Backup & restore

Progress is saved automatically on this device. For the strongest safety net, link a save file โ€” then it auto-saves after every test and loads automatically next time, even if the browser clears its data.

Or save / restore a backup file manually anytime:

      ๐Ÿ”Š Words

Every word in the app, by skill. Tap โ–ถ to hear how it's pronounced on its own. If one sounds wrong, type a โ€œsounds-likeโ€ spelling in the fix box and press Save โ€” the app will say it that way from then on (e.g. cat โ†’ kat).

These pronunciation fixes are saved on this device and included when you save a backup file.

๐Ÿ“– Guide for Parents & Teachers

What this app does, how to run it day to day, and exactly which spelling skills it covers.

How to use it (2 minutes to learn)

      • Once a day, 10โ€“15 minutes. Short and daily beats long and rare โ€” thatโ€™s how spelling sticks.
      • The app says a word, uses it in a sentence, says it again. Your child types it from memory โ€” no letters shown, no multiple choice. Typing from memory is the skill that transfers to real writing.
      • On a miss, the correct spelling appears and they retype it. Have them say the word, tap out the sounds, then type it. That โ€œsay-tap-writeโ€ fix is the important part โ€” donโ€™t skip it.
      • Missed words come back sooner; words they nail keep stretching further apart until they โ€œgraduate.โ€ You donโ€™t manage any of this โ€” just press Start.
      • Each session targets whatโ€™s not yet solid โ€” words heโ€™s missing or still shaky on, plus the next new pattern he hasnโ€™t learned. Already-mastered words are set aside (only spot-checked occasionally), so practice time goes where he actually needs to grow.
What a good day looks like: around 60โ€“85% correct on the first try. If itโ€™s much higher every day, bump the difficulty (pick a later skill under โ€œWhat to practiceโ€). If itโ€™s much lower, drop back a skill. ~50โ€“70% first-try is the sweet spot for learning.
Why some words feel โ€œtoo hardโ€: the app follows the real order schools teach spelling. Early on itโ€™s short words (cat, dog); silent-e (nice, cake) shows up mid-year; contractions (donโ€™t) and long-vowel teams come later. Donโ€™t worry if late-year skills arenโ€™t solid yet in the fall.

What each section teaches (full scope)

Every word in the app belongs to one of these 13 skills, taught roughly in this order. Click any skill to see all its words. Codes are the Illinois / Common Core standards (RF.1.3 = reading foundations; L.1.2 = writing conventions).

      SkillWhat it teachesStandard

The three things this child is working on

      • โ€œkatโ€ โ†’ cat โ€” when to use c vs k (c before a/o/u; k before e/i/y). This is an early skill, so itโ€™s tackled first.
      • โ€œniseโ€ โ†’ nice โ€” the silent-e that makes a vowel long, and the soft โ€œcโ€ that sounds like /s/. This word needs both rules, which is why itโ€™s tricky.
      • โ€œdotโ€ โ†’ donโ€™t โ€” hearing the hidden โ€œnโ€ in words like tent/hand, plus contractions (the apostrophe stands in for missing letters). Contractions are an end-of-first-grade / early-second-grade skill, so itโ€™s normal if this one lags.

Honest scope: this is original practice aligned to public Common Core / Illinois standards. It is not a copy of any commercial program and does not produce an official score. It runs offline and stores progress only on this device.
